Calpe’s beautiful golden sandy blue flag beaches have made it a popular tourist destination. While the tourism industry has added a modern flair to Calpe, much still remains of its rich history. The ancient town centre contains the old town walls, and the church known as Iglesia Vieja, the only remaining example of Mudeja-Gothic architecture in Valencia. The Museum of Archeology and the Fiestas Museum are also located in the town centre. The Moorish Castle of Calpe overlooks the Mascarat ravine and the countryside is full of the typical country houses, with arched porticos. On the beach, you will see the remains of a Roman villa, believed to be part of a fish farm. You can actually walk over them and swim right next to the Roman walls.


Calpe is an ideal location for watersports such as windsurfing, yachting, kayaking and waterskiing. For land lovers, Calpe also offers great rock climbing. After you have worked up an appetite be sure to visit the paseo maritime, which is lined a wide variety of bars and restaurants. The people of Calpe are friendly, and there is a sizeable population of English retirees who now call this Spanish paradise home..
