The Costa del Sol is the largest of the Spanish Costas and the most popular UK destination for summer vacations. Covering the 150 kilometers of coastline of the province of Malaga the Costa del Sol has for forty years been home to an ever-increasing ex-pat community. Costa del Sol - East

This is the the 54 kilometre stretch of coast to the east of Malaga city (the capital of Málaga province). Though highly developed from a property point of view, there are not as many properties in development as on the western Coast.

From Malaga eastwards there are cliffs of up to 200 meters where the Sierra Almijara joins the sea. This section of the Costa de Sol ends at a place called Mara.

Nerja is the most important centre on this end of the del Sol coast. Much of the eastern accommodation for tourists is found in Nerja, which is surrounded by tourist pueblos of villas apartments and townhouses. Nerja also has one of this area's main tourist attractions - the Nerja Caves, a spectacular find that is open to the public and which hosts an annual music and dance festival within its famous caverns. At the foot of Nerja town, a winding footpath joins several coves and there are some fine beaches on this stretch of coastline.

Costa del Sol - West

The Costa del Sol stretches for a 100km west of Malaga city, all the way to the border of Cádiz province. This part of the coast is highly developed in terms of both property and infrastructure and it attracts an important percentage of Spain's international tourism. Communications revolve around Malaga International Airport (8 km west of the city) and the N340 coastal highway. In the middle of the Costa de Sol the greatly improved district road from San Pedro de Alcantara inland to the historic town of Ronda is the most important inland connection.

The Costa del Sol along this coast is the most developed. The Mediterranean water is warm and safe. Many towns have recently modernised "paseo maritimos" (promenades)...There is no shortage of shortage of bars, restaurants and nightlife. The sand tends to be grey and coarse-grained on this part of the coast.

Costa del Sol - Golf

At last count, there are more than sixty golf courses in Andalucía, of which thirty or more are to be found on the Costa del Sol. The fine weather allows golf to be popular all year round.

When the Costa del Sol experienced a renaissance as a winter golf resort in the late eighties, the phrase "Costa del Golf" was coined. This concentration of quality golf courses, combined with the unique sunny and warm winter climate enjoyed by the region, led to its becoming unrivalled as a winter golf destination for northern Europeans. When Valderrama was chosen to host the Ryder Cup in 1997, the area received universal recognition as the finest winter golf resort in Europe.

The Costa del Sol remains the most poular destination for holidays from the UK. The Spanish property industry on the Costa del Sol still sell more property than any Costa in Spain.
