Pego can be accessed directly from either the A7 or the N-332. It acts as a gateway to the numerous small villages dotted in the valleys of the mountains behind it. Pego's position made it an important town in Moor days. It sixteen towers and town walls were destroyed during the War of Succession but the Church of the Assumption still stands. The church is topped by a bell tower and contains a triptych.
Originally, the Pego area was known for its rice growing. The distance from Valencia eventually made the crop un-economical and the area swapped its paddy fields for orange groves.
