Torrevieja on the Spanish Costa Blanca has just installed new incubation tanks for turtles and lo and behold , they suddenly have a loggerhead turtle to put into it .The turtle was seen by a fishing boat last week and on closer inspection they could see that there was something wrong with it .
The turtle was off the coast of La Manga in Murcia and once on board the fishermen kept the animal cool until they returned to Torrevieja . They called emergency services and a local biologist , who examined the animal and then had it placed in a recovery tank. The turtle was later transferred to Oceanigrafica in Valencia where it will spend time before recovering .
There were no obvious signs of injury to the animal but it did have respiratory problems which could be caused by either swallowing a hook or a plastic bag . Once it is fully recovered then the turtle will be released off the coast of Murcia once again .
